Each year, the CRC hires a team of undergraduate MSU students to work as interns in the Bailey, Oakwood, and Red Cedar neighborhoods of East Lansing. These are the neighborhoods closest to the MSU campus, in which there is a diverse mix of long-term residents and students living in close proximity with one another.
Interns strive to build a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation to foster positive relationships in East Lansing, especially among students and long-term residents. These relationships help resolve inevitable tensions that occur as well as helping students learn from their experience living in a community.
CRC Interns work to enhance mutual understanding through:
- Teaming with Neighborhood Partners and ELPD Liaisons
- Partnering with neighborhood associations and other community groups
- Conducting door-to-door outreach in the neighborhood
- Sponsoring and supporting social and informational events and activities
- Sharing helpful perspectives and input about the student experience in East Lansing
This is a 10-hour per week, paid internship that runs for the duration of the academic year. Applications for the 2012-2013 year will be accepted during the entire month of February. The position description and online application can be found here; applicants must also apply via position #58013 on MySpartanCareer. You can take a look at this year’s interns and read what they have been up to in the CRC Intern Blog.
