Dispute Resolution
To foster communication between neighbors, the CRC sponsors a Dispute Resolution Program. Landlors/tenant disputes, neighborhood issues, roommate disagreements, even bounced checks can be resolved fairly and quickly through mediation.
The CRC Dispute Resolution Program provides:
-Free professional mediation to anyone who lives or works in East Lansing
-Free mediation training for East Lansing residents interested in becoming state certified mediators
Incoming students
The CRC reaches out to new MSU students and parents through the Academic Oreination Program (AOP), the Incoming Students program informs students about being a part of the East Lansing Community.While new MSU students live on campus, they often visit downtown East Lansing for shopping or to visit friends who live off-campus. The CRC believes it is importanat to introduce the concept of being a responsible community member as early as possible to MSU students.
Housing Fair
In October, the CRC joins MSU’s Department of Student Life to educate MSU students about housing options and responsibilities of off-campus living.
The Housing Fair:
-features community resources from police and fire, to utility and insurance company represemtatives to answer students’ questions and offer helpful information
-host numerous rental property owners and management firms of all size who provide information on their available properties
-attracts and educates hundreds of students interested in living off-campus
Welcome Bags
The CRC kicks off MSU’s fall semester by assembling and distributing “welcome bags” to East Lansing neighborhoods with heavy off-campus student populations. The bags include information about living in East Lansing, including:
-important safety and health insurance
-city ordinances and services
-a map of downtown East Lansing including recreational and service locations
-publications from various MSU departments and organizations
